Zion Griffin was one of the breakout basketball players of last summer's AAU season. The Class of 2018 wing from Darien, Illinois played for Hoopers, an independent team, not affiliated with any shoe brands.
Although Zion never put up huge numbers playing at Hinsdale South (near Chicago) he elevated his game during AAU earning numerous high major offers, ultimately commiting to Iowa State.
Now a senior, Zion continues to light up the Chicago suburbs with his play despite much of it going under the radar as Hinsdale South has had an up and down season (or down and up).
Now Hinsdale South is nearing the end of its regular season and is contending for a conference title.
On the road at Leyden, Hinsdale South won convincingly 81-52 behind 21 points from it's biggest star, Zion Griffin. He was a force at both ends.
Playing the 5 for his high school team out of necessity, Zion's game might not look the same as he projects at the next level, but he's still one of the most exciting, athletic high school basketball players in Illinois. He's a powerful dunker! Seems like the Chicago area might have their answer to Zion Williamson?!

Charlie Moore has won more varsity games than any junior in the Chicago Public League. The lightning-quick guard has 2 state titles in his first 2 years of high school (now a junior). Always playing under the radar, alongside Billy Garrett (DePaul), Kyle Davis (Dayton), and Josh Cunningham (Bradley), Moore might be the coldest guard from Chicago that noone is talking about. Moore is unranked. He holds 3 offers: UIC, Bradley and St John’s.
One of Chicago’s top ballhandlers and scorers, Moore just wins. This season Moore is joined in the backcourt by standout transfer Marcus Lovett and is looking to lead Morgan Park to city and state titles once again. We caught Moore dropping 49 points in a game already this season (averaging 20+PPG)…

Even though he isn't written about or "ranked," Marquan 'BayBay' Williams is already well-known in Chicago basketball circles. Whether it's D Rose or Isaiah Thomas, Chicago is known for producing tough guards. This tough 5'10 10th grade point guard from Chicago's West Side attends a tiny charter school (Perspectives Joslin) with under 400 students. 5 years ago, Anthony Davis (Kentucky/New Orleans Pelicans) came out of nowhere to put Perspectives on the basketball map. And now BayBay is making noise for the Wolves.
Check out these highlights from Marquan's 9th grade season where he averaged over 21 points, 4
assists to lead his varsity squad. With no shot clock in Illinois high school basketball, we
think Williams was the unofficial top scorer in Chicago, regardless of class. Only Morgan Park
guards Marcus LoVett (2015) and Charlie Moore (2016) were in the coversation.
Williams creates for himself as well as his teammates and posseses the tightest handle in the
city. He gets to the rim at will and is able to knock down long distance jumpers as well, making him one of the most difficult players to cover in his class (2018). Josh Christopher (Mayfair 2020) and his high school squad flew from California to Chicago's South Side to battle defending state champs Morgan Park Mustangs led by 2020 guard Adam Miller.
The game closed out the 2018 Concord Classic by Jordan Brand (and opened Morgan Park's season).
Chicago Morgan Park was up 50-32 in the third quarter when a shoving match escalated during a stoppage in play. The game never resumed and the gym was cleared.
We still wanted to bring you the highlights for the Jordan Brand High School Basketball Concord Classic in Chicago!
No official stats were available but Adam Miller finished with 20+ points and Josh Christopher finished with 12+ points before the game was called.

Here's local prospect Yuri Collins (2019) of St. Mary's High School led his team to one of the biggest upset in Saint Louis Basketball History.

This was a rematch after losing by 20 points to Chaminade in the Belleville East Tournament, so going into this rematch, the small school came in with a chip on their shoulders and was looking to get their revenge. Going into the game, the dragons went in with a ton of energy with their run-and-gun game which led them to dominate the entire game offensive and defensively for the 21-8 lead in the first quarter. Jericole Hellems and Chaminade did everything they could to fight back to cut the lead but it was too much as St. Mary's gets the 88-46 blowout victory over the Red Devils.

Amari Bailey is an 8th grade basketball player from Chicago. He's known nationally for his scoring ability and skills. Before entering his 8th grade year, Amari Bailey committed to play college basketball at DePaul in the Big East. This shows how highly young Amari is regarded. Amari and his Skinner Elementary teammates (Grades 7-8) faced off against the city's top middle school team Ariel at Whitney Young High School's Best of the Best Tournament. This matchup took place in the semis and featured Amari Bailey versus the city's other most-touted guard Jaylen Drane. Drane and Bailey were teammates on Meanstreets (AAU) over the summer. They played 13U and 15U occasionally. Ariel is probably Chicago's most talented and deepest team.
In Chicago these team play a lot of games each season (50?!) so look for Ariel and Skinner to get a rematch at the Chicago Elite Classic at UIC (on a college court)!
Lastly, on a random note, yes that was Amari Bailey and his mom Johanna you saw on the reality show "Bringing Up Ballers."
